本文系统介绍西方建筑类型学和城市形态学的概念、发展历程和近年来新的学术探索。综合形态与类型学的研究的方法强调利用地图与规划图分析城市历史变化过程和理解城市结构及其构成规律。全面与确切的类型和形态研究是城市景观管理和旧城更新规划和设计实践的重要基础。通过讨论近年来国内建筑类型学和城市形态学研究极其存在的问题,本文重点讨论跨文化的综合形态与类型的研究方法对城市设计研究的意义。
Abstract：This paper introduces concepts, methodology and recent development of Western architectural typology and urban morphology. The typo - morphological study explores a more integrated framework for the understanding of urban physical structures and their formative processes. Integrated typo - morphological research provides an important basis for urban landscape management and design practice. Urban form studies of Chinese cities are largely descriptive rather than conceptual and analytical. It is argued that the typo - morphological perspective on the urban landscape can contribute to the development of research on Chinese urban form and urban design practice.
