Abstract:In architecture, the term of architectural surfaceis not a stiff idea, but rather a dynamic notion in whichdifferent status follow mutative context. Therefore, theconception of architectural surface could be defined bythose shifts of its notions leading to difference. As thehistorical horizon of the architectural surface, this essaywould focus on three significant shifts within the periodfrom early modernism to contemporary architecture, andbe organized following the main structure with the termsof liberation of surface, autonomy of surface and events ofsurface.
